First two e-mails

For those of you who are playing catch up, here are the first two e-mails that went out concerning me.

November 10, 2008

Dear friends and family,

 

Many of you know that Brian has not felt well these last few months and we wanted to share some recent developments.  A recent CAT scan has shown a growth in the area of the liver and kidney on his right side.  At this time we don't know what it is and therefore do not know what can be done about it.  We do know that its size and location have made this much more complicated than we would have liked.

 

We have met with a surgeon and the next few steps will determine if it is operable or not, and what will be the next course of action.  There does not appear to be a quick fix and we most likely will be referred to MD Anderson in Houston for further tests and treatment.

 

We greatly appreciate our special and close friendships with all of you and know that you will be as supportive of us as possible during this process. Please do not send flowers, cards, etc. and if you want to call, call me rather than Brian. We will keep you updated as we gather more information.  We really want to keep our daily lives as close to normal as possible and minimize any extra fuss or stress.

 

We do ask that you keep happy, positive thoughts, prayers and intentions for Brian's quick, speedy and uncomplicated recovery.

Dear friends,

 

Brian and I are home from Houston.  Unfortunately we don’t have the news we were hoping for or as many answers as we would like.  The surgeon at MD Anderson wants Brian to do several rounds of chemo in December/ January and then wait for a few months for the chemo to shrink the tumor before doing surgery to remove it.  We are waiting for more test results before they can confirm what type of tumor we are dealing with and then what type of chemo is needed.   Those test results usually take a week, so with Thanksgiving next week we are probably looking at the first week in December.  We will probably need to make our next trip to Houston that week for more tests and another appointment with him and the specialist who will lead the chemo process.

 

So the waiting continues.  Please keep up those prayers and positive intentions. We feel your love and support and are most appreciative.
